Amateur Stock Trading

Like almost everything else I know, I learned it by myself. For me it is easier because it is based on my own pace and my style of understanding.

What I am posting today about stock trading is just based on my own experience. If you would like advanced information, there are a lot of seminars and video tutorials available out there from more experienced individuals.

What I will cover in this post are very basic:
  • My Broker and My Stocks
  • My Buying and Selling Pattern
My Broker and My Stocks

First, a little history how I got into stock trading. SPAVI or Shakey’s Pizza Ventures Inc, the company I used to work for went public and asked us if we were interested in buying stocks. It initially was sold to us for PHP11.26 per share. I bought 10,000.

The broker handling our accounts was First Metro Securities. I filled out all the necessary forms and deposited my check payment to Metrobank. After a couple of days I got an email from them giving instructions on how to access the website. For me I was already happy when I accessed their site and saw my stocks.

After a few months I got another email saying that I have CASH DIVIDENDS at 0.10 PER SHARE, I guess 10% from it is service charge because I only got PHP900.

One thing I can say about FirstMetroSec is that their customer service is good. There was a time when I needed to change all my contact details because I changed my number and I no longer had access to my email. I sent them an email and they have assisted me well.

My Buying and Selling Pattern

Like how I acquired my stocks, the first time I sold some of them (5,000 to be exact) was also unplanned. I recently needed money so I had to let go of some of my shares. Luckily that time the amount per share is already at PHP13.00, so when I sold mine for PHP12.70, it was easily bought.

It took two weeks before I got the money because it takes a couple of days to process the order, another couple of days to prepare the check, and then a few more days for check clearing.

Now, if you have time to monitor the stock market daily, you can wait for the price to drop and buy, then sell it once it goes up again. For me SPAVI stocks are good for day trading because it always fluctuates at the moment but never stays too low or too high.
