I think you already have the answer to that question. Caveat Emptor, "the principle that the buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before a purchase is made". Don't be duped on how they packaged or marketed the product. Learn to examine for yourself if the item you are buying is true and correct as promised by the seller. By the time you finish scrutinizing the product for features, you will already have lost interest in it because 1) it might not be what you have expected, or 2) you already saw what you are getting and have lost interest already.
Don't get me wrong, I am also as materialistic as the next guy. I have my own urges. I would love to have a sports car, the latest gadget, or travel to whatever island getaway. BUT, since I cannot afford them, or even if I do but it would mean spending a chunk off my savings, then it does not make sense for me to even consider it.
